Ondo State Residents Protest Over 5-month Energy Outage, Insecurity, Block Roads

The residents, significantly the youths of the city, trooped out of their giant numbers to barricade the principle roads with woods, benches, and tables for a number of hours.

The protesters marched by means of the main streets of Irese city, chanting numerous solidarity songs to precise their displeasure over the event.

They berated the authorities of the Benin Electrical energy Distribution Firm, BEDC, for being insensitive to their plight.

A resident of the neighborhood, Ms. Ifeoluwa Olomofe, mentioned energy outage had elevated the extent of insecurity thereby necessitating the protest.

She defined that their companies had been adversely affected.

“For shut to 5 months now, the residents of Irese neighborhood have been in whole darkness – a state of affairs that has paralysed native companies whereas some had been even shut down and heightened insecurity.

“Many people can not work as there isn’t any electrical energy to run our enterprise once more as artisans. How can we now feed our household as those that are supposed to present us jobs or contracts can not do this once more since we have now no electrical energy to work?

Reacting, the spokesman for the BEDC, Akure Department, Mr. Micheal Barnabas, mentioned the transformers locally had been broken by vandals, noting that the problem would quickly be resolved.
