Convocation Ceremony

The management of the University of Ibadan (UI) has informed graduands without first-class honours not to attend the 2021 convocation ceremony physically.

According to a circular released by Olatunji Oladejo, the varsity’s spokesman, the graduands without first-class and their parents were instead asked to join the convocation ceremony billed for November 15 and 17 virtually.

Oladejo said the directive became imperative to curb the spread of coronavirus which is currently ravaging the world.

“Attendance at the International Conference Centre is open to First Class Honours graduands and recipients of prizes and awards only,” the circular read.

“Parents and visitors are not allowed into the campus neither will there be any form of party or social gathering during the period

“All graduands are to comply with COVID-19 protocols, including wearing of face masks, physical distancing and use of hand sanitiser.

“All graduands are expected to pay the levies as stipulated whether or not they attend the convocation ceremony as these will be required at the point of collection of the certificate.”

The development is not the first of its kind.

Last month, the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) also restricted access to the hall for the institution’s 36th convocation ceremony to only graduands with 1st class degree honours, prize winners, and doctoral awardees.

The event, which was held between October 15 and 23, had President Muhammadu Buhari in attendance.
