Obasanjo Reveals His Position on Nigeria’s Existence as a Nation amid Rising Insecurity

Former President Obasanjo has said the current security challenges cannot consume Nigeria – The elder statesman said he incurably optimistic about a better Nigeria, notwithstanding the current challenges – The former president made the statement amid rising cases of abductions, killings and terrorist attacks in the country

Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Nigeria’s former president, has expressed optimism that Nigeria’s security crisis can not lead to the nation’s breakup. Daily Trust reports that the former president made this known on Wednesday, April 28, at the 108th Nigeria Baptist Convention, held at the Baptist International Conference Centre, Lufuwape Town, along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

In his address, Obasanjo said he remained an “incurable optimist” about a better Nigeria, despite the rising security challenges. The elder statesman declared there would be light at the end of the tunnel despite the spree of killings and abductions, The Nation also reported.

His words: “You know, I’m an incurable optimist about a number of things, but particularly about Nigeria. “Epon agbo wa n fi ni, koni ja [the situation may be threatening, we won’t be consumed]. There will be light at the end of the tunnel).” Legit.ng notes that Obasanjo’s statement comes amid the rising security all every part of the country. While the north is witnessing rising cases of Boko Haram attacks and abductions by bandits, police stations and security agents are under attack in the south, particularly the southeast. Following the incessant abductions and killings, some governors and senators have expressed great concerns about the ugly incidents. The prominent Nigerians on Tuesday, April 27, asked President Buhari to seek foreign help in order to end insecurity in the country.
