Ledisi’s mother, Nyra Dynese was an American singer who sang in an R&B band, which was called “Coronava”. She also co-wrote the 70’s hit “Pillow Talk” with Larry Sanders.

In 2000, Ledisi released her first album, Soulsinger, on her own record label. After the release of Soulsinger, Ledisi began performing outside of the Bay Area.

In 2014, Ledisi released her sixth album, The Truth. Ledisi has also released the albums Let Love Rule (2017), The Wild Card (2020), and Ledisi Sings Nina (2021), which have all received various levels of chart success and multiple Grammy Award nominations.

To date, Ledisi has earned a total of fourteen Grammy Award nominations, winning her first award for Best Traditional R&B Performance for “Anything For You” in 2021.

Ledisi has released eight studio albums, including Pieces of Me, which was released in 2011 and received three Grammy Award nominations.

Ledisi has played gospel singer Mahalia Jackson in the films Selma (2014) and Remember Me: The Mahalia Jackson Story (2022).
