NYC Gun Violence: Retired Detective & John Jay Professor Weighs In On Mayor Adams’ ‘Blueprint’

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Earlier this week, Mayor Eric Adams introduced his plan to crack down on weapons and violent crime plaguing New York Metropolis.

He’s calling it his blueprint for a safer New York.

The plan requires bringing again a revamped Anti-Crime Unit, now renamed Neighborhood Security Models. These will embrace plainclothes officers deployed within the 30 precincts the place 80% of crime happens.

The mayor referred to as on everybody to “stand up and defeat gun violence.”

Michael Alcazar joined CBS2’s Aundrea Cline-Thomas on CBS Information New York to debate. Alcazar is a professor at John Jay School of Prison Justice and a retired NYPD detective. He spent 30 years on the job and was a lead teacher within the detective coaching unit.
