Nasarawa State’s First Female Chief Judge Sworn-In

Nasarawa State’s first female chief judge, Justice Aisha Bashir-Aliyu has been sworn-in.

She was sworn in on April 13 by the Nasarawa State Governor, Governor Abdullahi Sule after her confirmation by the Nigeria Judicial Council and screening by the State House of Assembly.

Before becoming the chief judge, she had worked as an acting Chief Judge for quite some months and in his address, Governor Sule told the new Chief Judge to see her appointment as a litmus test, as he urged her to bring her wealth of experience to bear in the discharge of her work.

In his submission, he said;

“As a Chief Judge you must realise that this is a call to serve the people and in carrying out your duties, I urge you to let the fear of God and public interest take precedence over personal preferences and inclination.”

Days ago, two Miyetti Allah leaders were sadly murdered in Nasarawa.

They were murdered gunmen suspected to be bandits. One of the deceased persons is the chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association in Nasarawa State, Mohammed Hussain, at Garaku Market Area of Kokona Local Government area of the state.

The other deceased person is Mohammed Umar, the chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association in the Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

The incident was confirmed by the spokesperson of the state police command, Ramhan Nansel in a recent statement which reads;

“On 2/4/2021 at about 1930hrs, information was received that unknown gunmen suspected to be Fulani Bandits attacked and killed one Mohammed Hussaini, the Chairman, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, Nasarawa State and Mohammed Umar, the Chairman, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, Toto LGA at Garaku market.

Upon receipt of the information, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bola Longe psc(+) swiftly deployed Operation Puff Adder II personnel to the scene where the two corpses were recovered and taken to the hospital; the corpses deposited at Anthony memorial Mortuary for Post Mortem examination after being confirmed dead by a medical doctor.”
