Louis Pasteur was born on December 27, 1822, in Dole, situated within the Jura area of France. He grew up within the city of Arbois, and his father, Jean-Joseph Pasteur, was a tanner and a sergeant main embellished with the Legion of Honor throughout the Napoleonic Wars. Louis was a median scholar in his early years however was very proficient at drawing and portray. He entered main faculty in 1831.
