Some of the teachers stated that there is about a 10 to 12-day interval between state government workers and local government workers in the state.

They however appealed to the Jigawa State Governor to intervene and directed all the local governments to pay their workers’ salaries on time.

Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar said the delay in the salary payment of primary and junior secondary school teachers is a result of the delay in Federal Government allocation.

The Governor stated this when he received the Nigeria Union of Teachers in his office in Dutse.

He explained that initially the state was borrowing money for the local governments to pay their workers’ salaries and pay them back whenever they receive their allocation.

“On why the local governments are paying the salaries at least one week after state government. Initially, I was loaning out the money for the local governments to pay salaries on time. So after they receive their grants, they pay me back.

“But it becomes difficult for some of the local governments to pay back the money to the state accounts, So that is why we stop loaning them but we have been working and I think by November, next salary, we will finalize and continue to do it on the 25th of every month the same day with state Government,” Gov. Badaru assured.

Findings by PRESSINFORMAT revealed that some of the local governments in Jigawa State are not able to pay their workers’ salaries until after the state government supports them with money due to bank deductions as a result of loans on the local governments.
