Jeffrey Dahmer’s Parents Claim They Didn’t Abuse Him as a Child

The gruesome killing spree committed by the notorious serial killer and cannibal Jeffrey Dahmer between the years 1978 and 1991 continues to terrify both the general public and enthusiasts of real crime. After his arrest in 1991, his upbringing came under intense scrutiny as investigators looked for any clues that might have explained how he got to be the murderer that he was.

In the recently released documentary entitled Jeffrey Dahmer: Mind of a Monster, which was produced by Discovery, Dahmer’s parents discuss the serial killer’s youth as well as his upbringing.

He explained that the sole red flag from Dahmer’s upbringing was the fact that he spent his time between the ages of 12 and 14 riding around country roads, collecting roadkill, and storing a stash of the dead animals. This information was not discovered by him or Joyce until much later.

Lionel stated that there would have been a warning sign for him if he had been aware of the roadkill. “I would have quickly taken action and intervened in the situation. However, before that, there wasn’t much of anything to speak of.”

The fact that Dahmer was able to keep his parents and friends in the dark throughout his childhood was probably due to the fact that his father recalled his son as being incredibly shy as a child.

Lionel cautions the other parents, saying, “Don’t underestimate shyness.”
