Half of Benue land occupied by armed herdsmen – ex-DG of SON laments

Former Director-Normal, Requirements Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Dr. Paul Angya, has stated that fifty per cent of Benue state’s land is occupied by armed herdsmen.

Angya stated this on Monday, Could 31, whereas talking with newsmen, in Makurdi.

He identified that assaults and occupation of farm lands by herdsmen had been already affecting the state’s standing because the Meals Basket of the Nation and in addition the nation’s meals safety.

He stated: “In the intervening time, Benue is besieged from all sizes by armed herdsmen, vagabonds and bandits. Our rural populace can not go to their farms; they’re maimed, killed, girls raped and crops ransacked and thrown out as feeds to cattle.”

He lauded Governor Samuel Ortom for enacting the Prohibition on Open Grazing and Ranches Institution Regulation.

He stated: “Governor Samuel Ortom must be counseled for his efforts at securing the lives and property of Benue folks. I applaud him for enacting the Anti-Open Grazing Regulation as a result of with out it, the extent of insecurity within the state would have been worse.”
