It has been exactly one week since the Supreme Court docket made the huge decision to overturn Roe. We don’t know how many of the more than 63 million babies who have been killed since Roe v. Wade was passed in 1973 would have had special needs.

Any parent who chose to raise a child with special needs over a “good” child will tell you that what makes these children so special is that they change and complete their families and the world around them.

So it was with Morgan Hartman. She persuaded her father, Gordon, to sell his successful real estate development businesses and build a world of play where she would feel welcome and have a safe place to play.

This week’s Really Feel-Good Friday story is about them.
Morgan’s Wonderland opened in 2010. It was the first theme park ever made with kids with special needs in mind. The park is completely wheelchair-accessible and has more than 25 rides, playgrounds, and interesting sights that will make these kids happy and help them bond with their families and make new friends.

Anyone with a specific need can get in for free, and they won’t be asked any questions.

Hartman’s Gordon Hartman Household Basis opened a new park in 2017 called Morgan’s Inspiration Island. It is a water park that was built with special needs and mobility in mind.

Hartman’s daughter, who is now 28 years old, continues to be a source of inspiration for him as he works to make the world a happier place for people with special needs. Hartman told the San Antonio Journal in a 2019 interview about his plans to open Morgan’s Wonderland Camp, which will be a very accessible camp with a challenge course, cabins, and other things made for people with and without disabilities. Morgan’s Wonderland Sports, a sports center for adults and kids with special needs, was also being built. Hartman also wanted his help for people with special needs to go beyond the entertainment area and into the real world. Hartman wants to build a Multi-Help Center (MAC), a place where families with children who have special needs can go to get help and services to make it easier for them to get medical and other benefits.

The Foundation goes even further by helping programs, projects, and non-profit organizations in the greater San Antonio area that work directly with people with special needs. Through grants, sponsorships, events, and other resources, the Foundation has helped more than 600 non-profit organizations.

Hartman had this to say to people who still think it’s important to kill babies with special needs to save them and their parents from pain, trouble, and stress:

Morgan was the spark that got Gordon Hartman to make a place where she belonged. Now, other kids with special needs and their families have a place where they belong and are welcome too.
