Gordie Tapp was best known for playing Cousin Clem on “Hee Haw.”

“Hee Haw” star Gordie Tapp is dead at age 94.

The CBC reports the Canadian actor-comedian, best known for playing Cousin Clem on “Country Hoedown” and “Hee Haw” over more than three decades, died Sunday in Ontario after a long illness.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, he got his start in the 1950s on Canadian public broadcasting before bringing his country bumpkin character to the U.S. on CBS’ “Hee Haw.” He appeared on 90 episodes between 1969 and 1988, and wrote for 78 of those episodes.

Tapp also had a top 10 hit in Canada with “Nobody’s Singing Them Cowboy Songs No More” and appeared in the movies “Wild Horse Hank” with Linda Blair and “Sweet Country Music,” which he also wrote. He was also known in later years for appearing in Canadian TV commercials for Ultramatic adjustable beds.

He received the order of Canada in 1988 and was inducted in the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame in 1990.

According to THR, Tapp is survived by his wife of 73 years, Helen, and two daughters and a son.
