RAPID VALLEY, S.D. – A firefighter has been injured combating a blaze in frigid temperatures in Speedy Valley.

The volunteer fireplace division discovered a free-burning fireplace within the roof of an occupied dwelling. Firefighters managed to include the blaze to the home, and no residents had been damage. One firefighter suffered a fall and was transported to Speedy Metropolis Monument Hospital for analysis.

Firefighters battled darkness, snow-packed and icy roads, subfreezing temperatures, frozen hoses, and a scarcity of an on-scene water provide. Crews needed to haul water to the hearth in vans.
