EFCC arrests former Abia state governor, Theodore Orji and son, over N48b security votes

The Monetary and Financial Crimes Charge (EFCC) has arrested former Abia Governor, Sen. Theodore Orji and his son, Chinedu over the alleged misappropriation of N48billion security votes.

That they had been moreover arrested over alleged misappropriation of N2billion Ecological Fund and conversion of Sure-P funds whereas the earlier governor was in office between 2007 and 2015.

EFCC sources say the earlier governor who has been on the Charge’s watch guidelines, was intercepted on the Nnamdi Worldwide Airport, Abuja at about 10am on Thursday, August 19 and delivered to the headquarters of the EFCC at Jabi, Abuja for the continuation of his interrogation. His son reported himself on the payment’s office.

“He is being quizzed alongside his son, Chinedu, the current Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, who turned himself on this afternoon upon learning of the arrest of his father.

Senator Orji and his sons, Chinedu and Ogbonna, are beneath investigation by the EFCC for offences bordering on misappropriation of public funds and money laundering.

The ex- Governor is alleged to have collected N500million month-to-month as security vote for eight years as governor of Abia state between 2007 and 2015.

The Head of Media and Publicity of EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed the arrest of the earlier Governor.
