Edo 2020: “I’m having sleepless nights over governorship election” – Oba of Benin

Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, oba of Benin, has stated that he’s having sleepless nights over the upcoming governorship election within the state.

He expressed worry over the spate of violence within the initiate to the polls.

The monarch, while speaking during a peace meeting he initiated for critical stakeholders within the gubernatorial contest, warned politicians against setting the state ablaze over the forthcoming governorship election.




He said;

“The warning is particularly for the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and therefore the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),”

“We do our bit internally; traditional prayers are being offered in order that there’ll be peace during the election.

“I want to appeal to politicians to regulate the youths. i would like the politicians to assure us that there’ll be peace. you are doing not kill yourselves over an office.

“This is that the worst scenario of all the politics that we’ve seen in Edo. Edo politics are within the news for quite sometime now for all the incorrect reasons.

“I have had sleepless nights over this. My mind is burning up over this violence and shooting everywhere the state. Let the shooting stop and let there be peace and quiet within the state.”

The Oba of Benin added that election isn’t a do-or-die affair, urging the political leaders within the state to offer peace an opportunity .

“Don’t kill yourselves over an office. Don’t kill yourselves over votes. allow us to have the working relationship that President Muhammadu Buhari had with Goodluck Jonathan; it’s not a do or die affair,” he said.

“The two candidates must tow the road of peace a bit like Jonathan did when he willingly announced his acceptance of defeat in 2015.

“This singular act changed the prediction of international community that Nigeria will hack as a results of that election.

“We are begging you politicians, particularly the 2 political gladiators. you want to all do your bit to settle down the strain within the state.”
