Don’t divide Nigeria over 2023 election – Olawepo-Hashim to candidates

Mr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has warned presidential candidates against further dividing the country in their campaigns ahead of the 2023 election.

He stated this in a press release on Sunday in Abuja.

The former presidential aspirant said the candidates are inflaming the passion of tribal and religious anger among the people rather than addressing the important issues in the country.

He added that their supporters are also not helping matters by driving campaigns with intimidation, threats, misinformation, and blackmail.

Olawepo-Hashim lamented that what is at variance today is far from what was obtainable in the good old days, adding that parties have lost their voices to the supremacy of candidates and their supporters.

He accused the political parties and their candidates of dancing around the insecurity, economic, power, unemployment, and other crisis bedeviling the country rather than speaking of how they intend to solve them.

“Sadly, the North is currently being divided between Christians and Muslims and not-Muslim-enough, while the South is been ripped apart by propaganda that pitch Christians of the South West against their Muslim siblings; on the one hand, Yorubas against the Ibos on the other hand as well as the old against the young,” he said.

He added that Nigeria could not afford to sacrifice its democratic process on the altar of self-interest by politicians.
