In March 2008, the 34-year-obsessive old’s ex-boyfriend Daniel Lynch arranged for Sylvestre to throw the corrosive liquid at her. She has subsequently gone on to protest against acid assaults and raise awareness about them, telling her tale in the documentary Katie: My Beautiful Face.

Lynch was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 16 years in prison for sexually assaulting Piper and telling Sylvestre to throw acid on her. Lynch, a martial arts enthusiast with a past conviction for throwing boiling water on a man, grew intensely envious of the couple after they dated for a short time.

Stefan Sylvestre, now 30, from Shepherd’s Bush, west London, was jailed in 2009 for the attack and told he must serve at least six years before being eligible for parole. Sylvestre has been released whilst Danny Lynch is still in jail.

Sylvestre was linked to the attack due to some of the acid spraying back into his face, leaving him with noticeable surface scars on his cheek.
