Oyo State Deputy Governor, Olaniyan

The court presided over by Justice Oladiran Akintola, gave the order on Wednesday when the case filed by the deputy governor came up for hearing.

The case was adjourned to Tuesday, July 5, 2022 for further hearing.
This was to allow the Assembly to respond to issues raised by the Deputy governor.
Director of legal services of the State Assembly, Olabanji, represented the lawmakers, while Chief Afolabi Fashanu, SAN, led Olaniyan’s legal team.
The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, had been with loggerheads with his deputy, Olaniyan, culminating in Makinde announcing Bayo Lawal as his running mate ahead of the 2023 elections
Makinde had made the announcement during a meeting with some chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the Oke Ogun zone.
Makinde had dropped Olaniyan who is from Igboho in the Oorelope local government area in Oke Ogun zone.
The governor and Olaniyan’s feud started shortly after their election into office in 2019. Olaniyan recently defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and has been facing pressure from the PDP to resign from office.
Lawal, who has been picked as running mate to the governor for his second term in office, is a lawyer from Kishi in Irepo local government area of Oke Ogun zone.
