Buhari Cancels Trip To London For Medical Check up, Returns To Abuja

President Muhammadu Buhari has returned to Abuja after addressing the United Nations Environmental Programme in Nairobi, Kenya, on Friday.

According to a prior press statement, he was supposed to fly to London for a medical check-up after the forum in Kenya.

Buhari attended the Special Session to mark the United Nations’ body’s 50th anniversary while in Kenya.

Buhari spoke with Ibrahim Thiaw, the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), in Nairobi.

The president suggested cooperation between the Ministries of Environment, Water Resources, Agriculture and Rural Development, and Power to tackle desertification during the meeting.

“As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of UNEP’s existence, we laud the efforts of UNEP and encourage broader action to overcome climate change, biodiversity, rising levels of pollution and waste being three major crises threatening our planet,” Buhari said.

In a related news, President Buhari has stated that Nigerians must begin to seek outside the military and security services for long-term answers to the country’s insecurity problems. 

Buhari made his submission in a speech to the National Defence College Alumni Association’s (AANDEC) launching event on Tuesday in Abuja. According to a statement released by Femi Adesina, the President’s Special Advisor on Media and Publicity, Nigerians must become more enthusiastic in cooperating with security forces to address the country’s difficulties.

“Security is not just a military concern but a challenge for all Nigerians. No matter the amount of money invested in military operations, without the support of the people, display of patriotism and preparedness for everyone to be ready to take ownership of securing our environment, success will be limited.
