Celebrity deaths in 2016

3 Doors Down accept their award for favorite new artist in pop or rock, at the 28th Annual American Music Awards in Los Angeles Monday, Jan. 8, 2001. Guitarist Matt Roberts is pictured at center.

Former 3 Doors Down guitarist Matt Roberts has died at 38. The founding member of the “Kryptonite” rock group was found dead Saturday morning in a hotel hallway in West Bend, Wisconsin. There were no signs of trauma, but a cause of death won’t be named until an autopsy is completed. Roberts, who was traveling with his father, was in town to perform at a charity event to benefit veterans. He formed 3DD with singer Brad Arnold and bassist Todd Harrell in 1996, but left the group in 2012 due to “health issues.” Roberts’ father said his son had a prescription drug addiction, but thought he had “beaten it all.” 3 Doors Down is currently scheduled to perform at Syracuse’s Oncenter Crouse Hinds Theater on Tuesday, Sept. 13.

“The Vampire Diaries” is ending after its eight season, but The CW will fill that blood-sucking void with a TV reboot of “Lost Boys.” “Veronica Mars” creator Rob Thomas is working on an adaptation of the 1987 movie that starred Kiefer Sutherland, Jason Patric, Corey Haim, Corey Feldman and Jami Gertz; Sutherland has been rumored to possibly make an appearance in the series. The network hopes to do seven seasons, will each season focusing on a different decade with different villains, mortals and more facing the titular “Lost Boys,” who will return each season.

Kim Kardashian is showing off her most famous assets again in apparently her first twerking video. The reality TV star and mother-of-two sharing it all shared a video of herself in a thong bikini while on vacation in Mexico, shaking her booty in a pool. “In honor of [Hrush Achemyan] birthday a month ago LOL she taught me how 2 twerk on this trip so I posting it for her,” she wrote in the video, which generated more than 6.3 million views in just over a day.

Bad boys, bad boys, what’cha gonna do? A “COPS” movie is on the way, based on the long-running Fox reality TV series. “Zombieland” director Ruben Fleischer is attached to a big-screen version of the show that aims to be an “edgy narrative feature with a buddy comedy bent on the order of a Lethal Weapon.” The project is in development, so it’s unclear when — or if — the adaptation will ever hit theaters.

And the first trailer for “Jean-Claude Van Johnson” shows Jean-Claude Van Damme as a depressing, yet hilarious, version of himself. The 55-year-old actor eats Pop-Tarts, rides a Segway and looks lonely — until he gets called out of retirement as his undercover alter-ego, Jean-Claude Van Johnson, filming an action version of “Huckleberry Finn” while investigating a case. The Amazon pilot is available on its website and will get picked up for a series if enough viewers tune in.
