2023: Political parties sign peace accord in Zamfara

Political parties in Zamfara State have signed a peace accord for 2023 general elections in the presence of the state police commissioner and other security chiefs in the state.

The peace accord was organized by the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security towards peace in the state during all elections.

According to the state commissioner of the organization, Mr. Kolo Yusuf, the ICCES is an ad hoc committee of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, made up of the various security agencies to ensure peace during the elections.

Deputy Governor, Senator Hassan Mohammed Nasiha signed the peace accord on behalf of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, which other political parties also signed.

However, the State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP assured that quasi security outfits during campaigns/rallies and other electoral processes are banned.

Similarly, the state police boss Kolo warned that the use of firearms and other offensive weapons remained prohibited, as infractions will obviously be visited with consequences.

On his part, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Professor Saeed Babura Ahmad said peaceful, free, fair and credible elections would enable Nigeria to raise its heights among other nations.

He, therefore, appealed to all political parties to give maximum support and cooperation to INEC, security and other stakeholders to ensure success.

All the political parties and their governorship candidates and representatives have signed the accord and vowed to abide by its provisions.
